The Onboard Charger (OBC) is an essential part of your electric vehicle, responsible for converting AC power from the charging inlet into DC power to charge the high-voltage battery.

Common Fault Symptoms

  • Vehicle won’t charge when plugged in
  • Red indicator light on charging port (EVI)
  • Power conversion or charging faults
  • Interlock communication errors

We strongly recommend bringing your vehicle to our garage for any OBC service or repair. Here’s why:

  • Your vehicle will be immobilised when the OBC is disconnected — it will not be drivable during the repair.
  • The OBC is part of the high-voltage system, directly connected to:
    • Electrical Vehicle Inlet (EVI)
    • High-Voltage Inlet Fuse Box
    • Battery Energy Control Module (BECM)
    • Inverter Electric Rear Axle Drive Module (IEM)
  • Servicing requires high-voltage isolation, special safety equipment, and risk assessments.
  • Only certified technicians are legally allowed to work on EV systems over 60V DC.
